Nos services sont \u00e9labor\u00e9s en fonction des besoins \u00e9mergents identifi\u00e9s par la communaut\u00e9 elle-m\u00eame. Les PAEV poss\u00e8dent une compr\u00e9hension approfondie de leur r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et jouent un r\u00f4le essentiel pour orienter notre fa\u00e7on de soutenir la communaut\u00e9. Comment les personnes souvent consid\u00e9r\u00e9es comme \u00ab le probl\u00e8me \u00bb peuvent-elles devenir des leaders dans la qu\u00eate de solutions ? L\u2019initiative des responsables de quartier est n\u00e9e de cette volont\u00e9 communautaire. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019investir dans la formation de leaders parmi les personnes sans-logis et consommatrices de substances, et de soutenir leurs efforts pour restaurer les aspects positifs de la culture de la rue et r\u00e9duire le d\u00e9sordre social, selon une approche \u00ab par nous, pour nous \u00bb. Depuis juillet 2023, les responsables de quartier r\u00e9alisent des actions communautaires pour am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et le bien-\u00eatre de toutes les personnes qui vivent, travaillent ou se rendent au march\u00e9 By, sept jours sur sept. Une partie du travail est pratique, comme distribuer de l\u2019eau par temps chaud ou ramasser les d\u00e9chets, mais l\u2019objectif principal est de cr\u00e9er des liens humains positifs et de renforcer la coh\u00e9sion dans la communaut\u00e9. Les membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipe, qui r\u00e9sident sur place, agissent comme \u00ab yeux et oreilles \u00bb sur le terrain. Par des contr\u00f4les de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans les chambres, des activit\u00e9s de sensibilisation \u00e0 une consommation plus s\u00fbre et des interventions en cas de surdose, l\u2019\u00e9quipe contribue activement \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 des personnes h\u00e9berg\u00e9es. Rocky fait partie d\u2019OICH depuis 2021 et joue un r\u00f4le cl\u00e9 comme partenaire dans plusieurs unit\u00e9s et programmes. Il offre notamment un soutien \u00e0 la client\u00e8le et l\u2019accompagne dans les diff\u00e9rents programmes de l\u2019organisme. Rocky participe aussi activement aux services offerts aux personnes autochtones. Il accompagne la client\u00e8le au <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redstonesnakewoman.ca\/misiwe\" style=\"color: white;text-decoration: none\">Misiwe Ni Relations Healing Lodge<\/a><\/strong>, anime des cercles de\ngu\u00e9rison hebdomadaires et participe \u00e0 l\u2019organisation des services comm\u00e9moratifs lors de nos c\u00e9l\u00e9brations trimestrielles de la vie. Des accompagnants form\u00e9s soutiennent les personnes participantes tout au long de leur parcours, \u00e0 leur propre rythme. Contrairement \u00e0 de nombreux programmes traditionnels, ce programme voit la consommation de substances comme une r\u00e9ponse adaptative plut\u00f4t qu\u2019une maladie, en mettant l\u2019accent sur le choix personnel, la responsabilisation et l\u2019ad\u00e9quation avec les objectifs et les valeurs propres \u00e0 chaque personne. How can those who are often seen as \u201cthe problem\u201d become leaders in the solutions? The Block Leader Initiative was an idea that came from the community.  It is an investment in developing leaders from the homeless and substance-using communities and supporting their efforts to restore positive aspects of street culture and thereby reduce social disorder using a \u201cby us, for us\u201d approach. \n\nBeginning in July of 2023, Block Leaders performed acts of community service intended to improve the safety and well-being of everyone who lives, works or visits the Byward Market 7 days a week. While some of the work is practical, such as handing out water on hot days or picking up garbage in the neighbourhood, the primary focus of their work is creating positive human connections through modelling compassion and kindness. The in residence POP team who live there are the eyes and ears on the ground. Through room safety checks, safer use education and overdose response, the POP team keeps the residents safe. Rocky has been part of OICH since 2021 and plays a key role as a Program Peer across multiple units and programs. He provides program support, peer support, accompaniment, and more. Rocky is also deeply involved in our Indigenous services. He accompanies clients to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redstonesnakewoman.ca\/misiwe\" style=\"color: white;text-decoration: none\">Misiwe Ni Relations Lodge<\/a><\/strong>, runs weekly healing circles, and leads Indigenous memorial services at our quarterly Celebrations of Life. These peers use their lived experience to connect with clients, provide peer support, and help bridge the gap between service users and our staff and programs. They also assist in running different activities and groups, accompany clients to appointments, engage in advocacy, and provide overall program support. Unlike many traditional programs, LPP does not define \u201caddiction\u201d as a disease but rather as an adaptive response to life\u2019s challenges.
